The Phidon Team
Happy Sunday, Phidon Family!
This newsletter will be a place for you to find out about new products, keep up to date on the initiatives we have going on in the community, and see what events are coming up at the store. It was imagined so that you, the reader, can feel just a bit more connected to our vision at Phidon, whether you use social media or not. We're ecstatic to be sharing this new initiative with you, and we hope you find it rewarding and informative!
We'll be sending you a fresh newsletter every fortnight to catch you up on what's been happening and let you know what's coming up. Thanks for participating in our new adventure, and be sure to reach out if there is anything in particular you'd like to be featured in an upcoming issue!
Dot Sale: July 22-27, 2019
As we are getting ready for the end of summer and the beginning of the back-to-school season, we are looking to clear up some shelf space and move some of the seasonally-themed products into your pen rolls!
This week, our back room will turn into a sale zone, with products marked down 40% or 50%, depending on the colour of each item's dot sticker. You can expect to find pens from Lamy, Monteverde, Visconti, and Kaweco, among others, as well as some beautiful notebooks and accessories, including calligraphy sets, pen cases, and drawing kits.
We won't be moving any additional products into the sale, so when they're sold, they're sold! There also won't be any substitutions for different products in the shop, so what you see is what you get.
100 Notebook Project
Last week we launched the fifth volume of our 100 Notebook Project with Communitech in Kitchener. By October we will have 500 notebooks from this initiative, filled with people's passions, hopes, art, writing, and whatever else they come up with! If you've seen any of the previous notebooks you know that each creator takes a different approach, and it's fascinating to see the unique creativity of each individual.
We currently have 300 notebooks in the community, 100 notebooks each at Preston High School, Pat the Dog Theatre Creation, and now at Communitech. We've already seen some unique takes on the project, including one participant using the journal for juggling instead of writing or drawing! We can't wait to see all of the finished notebooks.
Phidon in the community
On Wednesday July 10, Phidon was a sponsor for the annual Arts Connect Cambridge fundraiser: the premiere of Grease the musical at the Hamilton Family Theatre! The Phidon team was there to show support for the organization, which provides grants to arts projects in the region, and the play was wonderful. We're already excited for next year!
In case you haven't heard yet, we're also sponsoring the Toronto Stationery Show! The show is on August 25 from 11:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M., admission is free, and it is being held at The Great Hall Toronto. The show will feature a variety of independent vendors selling everything from paper to paints and from watercolours to hand-crafted paperclips! If you're in the area, we'd love to see you there.
New products in the store
The Esterbrook Estie in Cobalt Blueberry is a pen that all of us just had to see when it came in! We have it in both silver and gold trim, and both add a unique flair that contrasts with the colours of the resin. If you have a vintage Esterbrook nib, it also works well with an adaptor!
Field Notes always has beautiful quarterly editions, but they've really outdone themselves this time! There are three different packs, each with three grid-lined notebooks based around the U.S. National parks. The cover artwork itself is something to see, and Field Notes is donating 5% of each sale to the National Parks Service for preservation and expansion of the parks.
The Blackwing Volume 10 pencils, another quarterly release from the iconic brand, are a tribute to Nellie Bly, the journalist behind "10 Days in a Madhouse", which is a pioneering example of investigative journalism. The monochrome grey pencils, mimicking newsprint, come in packs of 12 or you can pick up one individually in the store.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read our newsletter! You can expect the next issue in your inbox on August 4, 2019.
Until then, happy writing, and we hope to see you in person soon!
